Report: A day long program on MSICS was organized by Dibrugarh Academy of Ophthalmology. All the invited guests were greeted with a warm welcome by Dr Deepanjan Ghosh, executive member, Assam Chapter of ISMSICS followed by a brief insight into ISMSICS by Dr R.N.Gogoi.
After the traditional lighting of the lamp, an enlightening keynote address was delivered by Dr Harsha Bhattacharjee, Chairman, Assam Chapter of ISMSICS. The esteemed guest speakers Dr. Madhusmita Behera and Dr. Manas Nath, both from Kolkata were then felicitated . The scientific session began with video based elaborate lectures on the basics of MSICS by different eminent speakers. Thereafter another session on various mixed topics like teaching methods for post graduates to managing challenging cases was highly appreciated by the house.

Arief Write Up – A total 20 participants were invited from all over India. On 16th August 2019, Dr Raut delivered talk on his novel concept of Software guided Smart SICS to induce multifocality without multifocal IOLs. This was followed by interactive discussion. On 17th August Dr Raut performed 4 live surgeries demonstrating his technique of Smart SICS. On 18th Aug patients were followed up again. The hardware for SMART SICS was given to 5 surgeons. All the participants enjoyed excellent hospitality provided by Dr. Rajeev Raut’s Life Sciences Research Trust

A day long programme on MSICS started with welcome address by Dr Jayashree Baruah, president of ISMSICS Assam Chapterhighlighting the importance of MSICS in today’s scenario. After the traditional lighting of the lamp, tribute was paid to Dr Kunwar Vikram Singh Dhaliwal and a minute of silence was observed to pray for the eternal bliss of the departed soul. After falicitation of guest speaker Dr Prakash Marathe, by Dr Harsha Bhattacharjee, Chairman of Assam Chapter of ISMSICS the scientific deliberations started with the wonderful talk by none other than Dr Marathe, which was highly appreciated by everyone. All aspects of MSICS was discussed by Dr Harsha Bhattacharjee, Dr B M Agarwal, Dr Dipak Bhuyan and Dr Jayanta Baruah. This was followed by video presentations by all the speakers: Dr Bijuli Goswami, Dr B M Agarwal, Dr C Sangma and Dr RajenGogoi. A wonderful panel discussion followed this moderated by Dr Jayashree Baruah. There was active involvement of the entire audience. The enthusiastic involvement of the post graduate students in the interactive session was really appreciated by everyone.

ISMSICS session was included in the Scientific Program. It was the wonderful Conference well attended and appreciated by around 400 delegates and trade.
‘ISMSICS’ session was well organised and conducted by Chairpersons Dr Prakash Marathe , Dr Nilesh Kakade, Dr Asmita Yardi and Dr Rujuta Machave.
Dr Parikshit Gogate discussed comparison of SICS Vs Phaco. Role of manual SICS in current day Cataract Surgery was elaborated by Dr Ranjana Pande. Future of SICS was explained by Dr Prakash Marathe. Dr Gopal Arora talked about topical SICS. Dr Baban Dolas discussed about managing complications in SICS. Dr Kuldeep Dole stressed on SICS training, need of today. Incision and tunnel was demonstrated by Dr Radhika Paranjpe. There was the panel discussion at the end. The course was useful for veterans as well as juniors. It was appreciated by one and all.

Maharashtra Chapter of ISMSICS has already started functioning. Around 4-5 programs have been already conducted under its banner.
Installation was aimed to be conducted at grand event. 38th Annual State Conference of Maharashtra State Ophthalmological Society, MOSCON 2018 Aurangabad was the perfect event for that. On Sunday, 28th October 2018, ISMSICS Session was kept in Hall A at 10 am as per Scientific Program. The Installation was done at the start of the session. To start with Dr Amulya Sahu elaborated the introduction with journey and future of ISMSICS.
ISMSICS Chairman : Dr Amulya Sahu, Vice Chairman : Dr Jagannath Boramani, Secretary: Dr Parikshit Gogate, President : Dr Quresh Maskati graced the installation Ceremony. Maharashtra Chapter Chairman Dr Prakash Marathe, President Dr Santosh Bhide and Secretary Dr Pankaj Shah were garlanded the medallion by Dr Amulya Sahu. Rest of the Committee members were also felicitated. The group photo was taken at the end.
The installation was followed by Scientific Session in which talks by Dr Jagannath Boramani (Bluementhal’s Mini Nuc Technique & my tips), Dr Quresh Maskati (Viscoexpression-dos & don’ts), Dr Madhuri Dixit (Phaco freak to SICS Savvy..my journey), Dr Amulya Sahu (Topography guided SICS), Dr Anil Shah (Nucleus fragment techniques)and Dr Gopal Arora (Topical and viscofree SICS) were delivered which were very well appreciated by well attended audience. At the end Committee meeting was held with fruitful discussion.

A day long programme on MSICS started with welcome address by Dr AbaniBarthakur, renowned ophthalmic surgeon from Golaghat district of Assam highlighting the importance of MSICS in todays scenario. After the traditional lighting of the lamp, the scientific deliberations started with the keynote address by none other than Dr Harsha Bhattacharjee, Director,Sri SankardevaNethralaya. It was a wonderful presentation describing the role of improving the skills of our SICS surgeons to overcome the cataract backlog in our state. This was followed by wonderful video presentations by all the speakers: Dr Jayashree Baruah, Dr Syed SajjadurRohman, Dr Jhumur Choudhury, Dr SurpriyaHawaibam, Dr Ronel Soibam and Dr Jayanta Baruah which was highly appreciated by the audience. A wonderful panel discussion followed this moderated by Dr Pulakesh Bhagawati.

First CME of Punjab Chapter, “Vision msics”

The first CME (Vision – MSICS) and Installation ceremony of Punjab Chapter of ISMSICS was conducted at Country Inn Resort, Amritsar, on 21st of October, 2018. The CME was hosted by Regional Institute of Ophthalmology, GMC, Amritsar under the aegis of Academy of Amritsar Ophthalmologists (AAO).
Dr. AmulyaSahu, Chairman, ISMSICS, was the chief guest of the occasion. Dr. Prempal Kaur, Professor and Head, RIO, was the Organizing Chairperson, and Dr. Karamjit Singh, Professor, RIO, was the Organizing Secretary. Scientific talks were given by Dr. Sahu, Dr. Shakeen Singh, Dr. Ranjit S. Dhaliwal, Dr. S.K. Sharma, Dr. Asheesh Gupta, Dr. Neeraj Arora, Dr. Kunwar V.S. Dhaliwal, Dr. Amarjit Singh, Dr. PawanPrasher, Dr. Karamjit Singh and Dr. SudhirSalhotra. The entire team conducted a great scientific session starting from Basics of MSICS and Individual steps, up to the management of complications.

The Scientific session was followed by Free Paper Session for the PG’s. Dr. Sahu, Dr. Dhaliwal, and Dr. Ravi Trehan were the judges. All the PG students did exceptionally well and it was a hard task for the judges to get to the results. There was a tie for all the first 3 positions which had to be concluded with a rapid fire quiz round by Dr. Trehan.

Dr. Ranjit S. Dhaliwal was installed as Hon. Chairperson, Dr. Shakeen Singh, as President, Dr. Gursatinder Singh, as Vice Chairman and Dr. Karamjit Singh, as Secretary of ISMSICS Punjab Chapter. Installation was done by Dr. AmulyaSahu.

First cataract surgery workshop of the Delhi chapter of ISMSICS was successfully conducted at PGIMER and Dr. RML Hospital on 23rd September 2018. Dr. Taru Dewan , Organising Secretary and the entire eye department at Dr. RMLH , organised a scientific feast consisting of wet labs , continuous video assisted learning and lectures by stalwarts in the field of MSICS, namely Prof KPS Malik , Prof Sushil Kumar , Prof Ruchi Goel and Dr. Bithi Choudhary .
The highlight of the day was the wet lab , attended by 65 delegates from all over Delhi which started at 8 am and continued till 5pm with one to one , hands on guidance by experienced mentors .
Special thanks to Dr. Taru Dewan for kickstarting the Delhi chapter with meticulous execution of the event and setting the bar high .

Second CME on advance SICS

2nd CME on MSICS Rajasthan chapter was held in Bikaner, today the 9th of September 2018. It was attended by 58 delegates. The CME began with a round table meeting with resident doctors with hands on training and step by step discussion of MSICS technique which was mentored by Dr Trehan and lasted for about 90 minutes.
After this there were lectures on

2.Wound construction in SICS
3.Capsulorhexis
4.Hydrodissection and hydro delineation
5.Benefits of SICS
Each presentation was followed by discussion with invited faculty.
A brief overview. of ISMSICS was then given by Dr. S. P. Vyas.
Dr. Trehan expressed his views on smart SICS and achieving multifocal effect with monofocal lenses in MSICS and updated about recent advances in SICS.
A quiz was held for the resident doctors on MSICS and cash prize of 15 thousand given to winner and runner up teams. The CME was highly interactive and informative for all.

More than 105 delegates attended this very successful event. The scientific sessions were mainly video assisted and interactive.
The CME also included a PG competitive Debate session, the theme of which was Manual cataract surgery Vs Robotic cataract surgery. There were 7 teams, with 4 participants in each team, making it 28 participants in all. The winners were decided on basis of best scientific content, best style of presentation and best team presentation.

*ISMSICS – Punjab* has set its Academic ball rolling by conducting the first of its CME program on 30th May, 2018 at Nabha.
The Introductory CME on Manual SICS was held in association with IMA – Nabha.
One (1) CME credit hour was also granted by the *Punjab Medical Council*.
*Dr. KVS Dhaliwal* delivered his talk on *Manual SICS- A surgery for all reasons; A surgery for all seasons!*’
The CME was very well attended and appreciated. This introduction has created a huge interest in the subject amongst doctors of other specialities also, a much desired goal, as many doctors had been of the opinion that phaco is the only cataract surgery available.

National Institute of Ophthalmology under the aegis of Maharashtra Ophthalmological Society, Poona Ophthalmological Society, IIRSI and VRSI organised PUNE EYECON 2018, with the tagline ‘Overcoming Obstacles in Ophthalmology’ at Hotel Sheraton Grand, Pune on 28th & 29th April 2018.
Renowned International , National as well as local faculty were invited. There were various topics included in the Scientific Program. Dr Prakash Marathe Chairman, Maharashtra State Chapter of ISMSICS and Dr Parikshit Gogate requested the organisers, Dr Aditya Kelkar and Team NIO, to have SICS Session in the Scientific Program which was accepted. It was the wonderful Conference well attended and appreciated by over 400-500 delegates and trade.
One of the important Sessions was ‘ISMSICS – SICS Made Easy’ session well organised and conducted by Chairpersons Dr Prakash Marathe , Dr Parikshit Gogate Dr Vaijayanti Deodhar and Dr Santosh Bhide.
